Running / Picked up running this pat month...
« on: December 01, 2012, 11:50:31 AM »
About a month ago, I added running to my list of activities.  I haven't run a timed 5k in over 12 years and it was hard to adjust back into the realm of running.  As a cyclist, there is much more fun to be had, but with running, very little preparation is needed.  Who else runs?  What do you do to keep yourself motivated?

Energy on the Go / Cliff Blocks
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:22:28 PM »
I have pretty much switched my standard of energy/electrolyte intake to that of Cliff Energy Blocks.  They are the gummy blocks that come in about 10 flavors.  They seem to work extremely well for me and I think it is much easier to eat while riding than some of the cookies and energy bars.

Anybody else try or use them?

Road Biking / Fuzion M1's for the Giant FCR
« on: January 10, 2012, 01:29:04 PM »
My touring/commuting bike has received another upgrade!  Today, UPS delivered my Fuzion M1 wheelset for my Giant.  Until now, I had the stock wheels from my specialized allez on the bike and while they did the job, they did not do the ride justice.  My faith in Williams Cycling wheels is very strong and each and every wheels set they make seems to be bomb proof and serviceable. Here is a crappy first picture of the bike with the new upgrade.

Charitable and Non Charitable Events / 2012 TdC for Diabetes!
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:08:40 AM »
Here is the local link for the Ambler ride.  You can select through to your location if you want to do a different ride.  I plan on riding the longest route as I did last year and I am hoping to get at least 4 or 5 people to join me this year.  It would be nice to register as a team.  If we can get 5 people this year, I will have Jersey's made for us representing Live Once Enjoy on the ride.

Please let me know if you are interested and will commit to riding with the LOE team this year.

Gearheads / Black Diamond Climbing Day Pack
« on: January 03, 2012, 09:32:23 AM »
As one of many really great Christmas gifts this year, I received a Black Diamond day pack.  It's is climbing style/geometry with a drop style larger compartment and a vertical zipper front compartment.  The color matches my Gregory pack almost perfectly, which is an added bonus.

I can't wait to get and use this thing.  I'll try and take a picture of it and post if it anybody really cares.

Road Biking / Pedal Upgrade SPD to SPD-SL
« on: May 13, 2011, 02:31:02 PM »
I just got new pedals for the SL Club.  I previously used Shimano A520 SPD pedals because 1- I had them from my Allez which in turn left my Allez naked without pedals or I can throw a pair of flats that I have lying around on there and 2- They were compatible with the cleats I had for the my shoes and all of my other pedals.

However, as I got a new bike with all Shimano 105 or better stuff on it, it is only fitting that the pedals match.  Actually, there is quite a few reasons for the upgrade and aesthetics was just a huge bonus.  The wider platforms and cleats make for a much more comfortable stance on the pedal while also elongating it.  The axle bearing setup is new and improved and the weight difference is negligible in either direction claimed/actual weights.

It doesn't seem as though my current shoes will take all 3 bolts for the cleats due to them being beaten for a good 2k miles.  I am sure new cycling shoes are in my very near future to accommodate this.

The clip-in system is very similar feel to my old one with a loud enough click to know that you're in, but it is much smoother both on the clip in and release to/from the pedals.  I will report back in a couple of weeks with some real updates, but here is the bike with the new pedals installed.
